A Year of Astute

Astute is one year old today, having been launched by Phil and Olly on the 22nd July 2024.  Time has flown, and the business trebled in size with Richard, Adam, Genna and Mark joining the team, supported by a strong group of highway design engineers who provide input as required.

Having started with a project base of zero, we have since been appointed on over 120 development projects, covering the UK from Glasgow to Surrey to Devon.  Housing schemes range from single dwellings to two thousand dwellings.  Commercial development from recycling centres to distribution and science parks.  Plus padel courts, hospitals, foodstores, town centre regeneration schemes, hotels, universities, schools, EV charging stations, roadside advertising and sports pitches.

A really great mix of projects for over 50 clients and working with numerous consultant teams.

There have been many highlights, including working with our new colleagues Genna and Mark, holding our Autumn social and attending events such as UKREiiF and Chester Races.  We have been amazed by the help, support and interest that we have had during our early days.

We have also enjoyed stepping out into the business world, working with an excellent array of accountants, solicitors, banks, recruiters and others to make this happen.  All the while we have stuck to our principles of being Approachable, Rigorous and Astute.

Looking to the next year, we are excited about the opportunities that are coming our way.  And we will soon have some big announcements to make about increasing our workforce and capability.  But that’s for another day.

While we are looking to the near future, it is an interesting time for the Transport Planning world, as we await revised national guidance on Transport Assessments, using a vision led approach and getting further away from predict and provide.  Fortunately, this is an approach that we at Astute have supported for some time, but we will provide a summary for our clients and contacts when the guidance is published.
